" "Nature vs. Nurture…Nature always wins."  Or, so Sen. Cleary as played by Christopher Walken says during a family get together after his eldest daughter gets married.

Because that is right folks, I did see "Wedding Crashers" on Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at 9:10pm.  And to be frank, this film was quite the laugh riot and very well executed by its two main stars Owen Wilson & Vince Vaughn.  I must say that when Vaughn is paired with the right people his comedy truly shines.  In my opinion, his weakest film was "Old School" because the script just sucked monkey balls and the improv to the film just didn’t seem there to be of any great memory.  I mean, heck, Will Ferrell running naked alongside a car in that film was just grossly overdone in the trailers for "Old School" that it just wasn’t funny.

Anyways, "Wedding Crashers" is the story of two bachelor divorce lawyers in our nation’s capital, Washington, D.C.  The two lawyers are John Beckwith (Wilson) and Jeremy Grey (Vaughn).  As well, it seems Jeremy has been bitten by the bug of the "creator" of crashing weddings Chaz Reingold.  Therefore, Jeremy & John have a set of rules to abide by in the realm of crashing weddings, such that neither of two never leave each other out to dry.  In other words, they are always there for each other.

As the movie progresses, things get quite complicated for Jeremy.  This is because there is a one Gloria Cleary (Isla Fisher) who more or less has a strong come-on approach.   Actually, this come-on approach is easier said then done, because she is quite forceful in wanting Jeremy.  Needless to say, Gloria gives Jeremy some of the funniest sado-masochistic sex scenes ever put to the screen.  Just the way that Vaughn reacts as Jeremy in these scenes is just brilliant.

Also, there is the requisite kind-of love interest for John, which is the Senator’s youngest daughter Claire (Rachel McAdams).  As well, it just happens to be that Claire has a fiance, Sack Lodge (Bradley Cooper), who is so egotistical and maniacal over her to be a part of the Senators family, that his motives are highly questionable.  However, the Senator still enjoys a good game of touch football with Sack.

I must say that the comedy in this film is quite vulgar, but in an odd sort of way in works 95% of time.  Now, as I’m writing this, I don’t really know what 5% didn’t work, but it really doesn’t matter here.  However, I am just thinking that the beginning of the film which introduces us to our two bachelors when they are negotiating terms with a newly separated, soon to be divorced couple was quite slow in the punch line.  I mean, sure the scene had its moments, but it just didn’t do much for me than put a smile on my face.  Either that, or I was just grinning at the fact that I knew I was watching a kickass comedy.

The other character of mention is the Senator’s wife, Kathleen, as played by Jane Seymour.  Now, it is just curious that the actress who has recently appeared on "Smallville" has taken up this role in this film.  This is because as she played a conniving mother in "Smallville’, she is a seductress on the evil side of Mrs. Robinson in "The Graduate" in this current film.  Or, I should say she plays a seductress so well that she prefers to be called Kitty-kat…but I digress...I have to say though that the scene between her and Wilson when she asks him to put his hands on her breasts was quite funny.  This is due to the fact that Kathleen (or Kitty-kat) basically went all ape shit on John after the breast fondling, as if Kathleen though she was being attacked/raped.

Also, there is a small cameo/side performance here by Will Ferrell.  He plays the aptly named Chaz, the wedding crasher afficionado as it were.  Although, it now seems that Chaz prefers crashing funerals to get a much better grasp on the sympathy vote.   But, hey, who doesn’t like a man’s shoulder to cry on…but I digress…Ferrell’s performance was okay, nothing great…but it is okay since this wasn’t a Ferrell starrer by any means.

Overall, the comedy in this film resides solely between Wilson & Vaughn.  They truly bring there A-game to this film.  However, I must give kudos for all the crap that Vaughn takes in this film.  I mean, Vaughn’s reaction to his self-portrait by the Cleary’s "homo" son was quite golden.  The film was just a keeper in the comedy department.  As well, the romantic chemistry worked between John & Claire (Wilson & McAdams) especially when they finally had that bike ride/beach talk.  In my opinion, the relationship truly did work from that point on, and not to mention that Rachel McAdams does look cute.

Therefore, I shall give this film a 3/4 stars and a 8/10."
