- Commentary from a friend -

"So... I saw "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy" last night at 9:25pm...to say the least this was perhaps as good a comedy as "Dodgeball" was which was released earlier this summer...

While "Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story" was brilliant in its execution of comedy in every captivating scene, "Anchorman" just further proved the brilliant work of Mr. Will Ferrell...I guess in a land not too far away but south of Canada...Will Ferrell is seemingly godlike, but he is not quite God...that my friends would still have to go to the reigning champ of Mr. Mike Myers...

"Anchorman" is about the local news industry during the early 1970's when the main news anchor was a MAN, and the thought that a woman could express the news just as equally well was considered rubbish...the main character, Ron Burgundy, is our little hero/antihero of the story in which he plays the lead anchorman of a local San Diego news station...as well, Mr. Burgundy is accompanied by his three friends and news compatriots who do the weather, sports, and in-the-field reporting...

However, things begin to go haywire for this #1 trio of news...the best news team in all of San Diego in which every other news organization would likely want to place a hit on Ron Burgundy...but the movie digresses...it seems the head of the news department, Ed Harken played brilliantly by Fred Willard, comes to realize that no one else can anchor the news except for the new woman reporter, Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate), when Ron Burgundy can't get to the station on time due to an "accident" of quasi-biblical proportions (at least to Mr. Burgundy)...from here on in Ron Burgundy will have a co-anchor...the first news program in San Diego to do so...in the end...it is realized that Burgundy and Corningstone can work together even with their egos...

The three compadres as it were: the weatherman, sports guy, and field reporter all play great characters and get huge laughs in the film. A special acknowledgment has to be given to Steve Carell who plays Brick Tamblin (the weather guy) who is so naive that he makes retardedness seem cool, but I digress...

Overall, this film is a lot of laughs and a good time. So far this summer, it has been a good year for comedy. The surprise cameos in this film are brilliantly portrayed, and they each add a nice touch to the overall feel of the movie. All I will say here is that this movie is as good as Bruce Campbell using a chainsaw as an arm...

Thanks Will Farrell and Adam McKay (director and co-screenwriter with Farrell)...we salute you...

Therefore, I give this film a 2.5/4 stars and a 7.5/10."
