"Well, I know this is a little late but I saw "The Bourne Supremacy" this past Friday night at 7:50pm...this was one hell of a good ride of a film...purely enjoyable from start to finish...
I have to say "The Bourne Supremacy" was actually quite good and hugely entertaining...I love a good chase scene and an overall well done action film a la "The Rock"...I have to say that since Jerry Bruckheimer has been in slump as of late it seems it is a no brainer than that most good action films tend to stay away from the so-called "man"...however, at least Bruckheimer has his television shows to turn some kind of profit...
Anyways, "The Bourne Supremacy" is the sequel to the 2001 action film "The Bourne Identity" starring Matt Damon. To catch everyone up, "The Bourne Identity" is about a CIA assassin who was shot off the coast of Marseilles, France in the Mediterranean leaving him with a bad case of amnesia...so when our hero wakes up on board a fishing boat that the fisherman kindly brought him aboard and took out the bullets, the assassin has no memory of who he is...eventually he finds out he has these tremendous fighting skills and the like...and all he wants to do is to restart his life fresh...oh and he also finds himself a girlfriend played by Franka Potente...as "The Bourne Identity" goes on Jason Bourne learns of his past being a CIA assassin stationed in France, but it is Bourne's wish to just be left alone...although the CIA agent will have nothing of the sorts...but in the end, Bourne is able to overcome the CIA's demands and retain the girl...
In the sequel, "The Bourne Supremacy" every character is back for a second "run"...no pun intended...the only character that is not there is Conklin, the CIA agent from the first film that trained Bourne that ended up dead in the first film...this time around Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) is living in Goa, India with Marie (Franka Potente) trying to live hidden from his past to avoid the mess of the CIA...and for almost 2 years he has done just that...however, there seems to be a Russian oil embargo/trade deal gone awry that ends up bringing good old Bourne back into the fold...this is because it is assumed that Bourne was the one who had interfered in the CIA operation killing two Russian informants...however, of course, this is totally bogus to Bourne...
Meanwhile, Bourne thinks he has been tracked down in India...so he and Marie escape India...but later in the film it is realized that the man chasing him in India was not the CIA but part of the Russian mob trying to kill Bourne...this is because the Russian gang did not think anything of the amnesia of Bourne, as well as, Bourne being involved with the gang's previous plans years earlier...
Therefore, the film takes us through Europe...mainly Berlin and Moscow...has Bourne thwarts the CIA operatives and the Russian gang...Bourne is trying to clear his name with the best of his abilities...as well, it seems Conklin's superior from the first movie, Ward Abbot (Brian Cox), has more up his sleeves than one may initially think...
In the end, Bourne has made things right with everything...even if it is a temporary kind of normalcy...but I guess the existential question than is...what is normalcy...but I digress...
The acting in "The Bourne Supremacy" was well done and extremely cool...I especially liked the touches of brillance from Brian Cox...the way that his character Abbott used his superiority to talk down to the female agent Pamela Landy (Joan Allen, who has also been in "Face/Off" and "The Contender")...I mean the way that Abbot talked about doing what's best for the agency by subtly implying not to get over your head was just shear brilliant acting...as well, you have to be amazed by Joan Allen's portrayal of a CIA agent who just wants to get to the bottom of the case...which is easier said than done...it didn't hurt that she was decent to look at either...as well, you can't have a Bourne movie without the main character...and that means Matt Damon, his portrayal of a man seemingly trapped between an old and new world was amazing, because the audience was able to sympathize with his heartaches/troubles/situations, even if some of the situations most people would not find themselves in...
On a final note, I have to give praise for one of the most dynamic and heart pumping chase scenes I have ever seen...the cab chase scene in Moscow was so dramatic and dynamic that the adrenaline was really pumping...it was awesome how they were able to grab and keep old of the tense situation...
Therefore, I have to give this film a 3.5/4 stars and an 8/10..."
